President John Tyler and his wife Julia (nee Gardiner) had their son Lyon when the President was 63 years of age. The President passed away about eight years later at the age of 71. Julia was approximately 30 years younger than her husband, John.
Lyon Gardiner Tyler was born on August 24th, 1853, and fathered Harrison at the age of 75. He passed away six and a half short years later after Harrison was born.
Harrison Ruffin Tyler was born to Lyon Gardiner Tyler and Susan Ruffin on November 9th, 1928.
Harrison’s mother, Susan, was 35 years younger than Lyon.

Lyon Gardiner Tyler was the 17th President of William and Mary College.
Harrison Ruffin Tyler was an engineer, who attended both William and Mary and Virginia Tech college. He used those engineering skills to found ChemTreat a water treatment company.
Harrison also restored The Sherwood Forest Plantation. The very place where his father was born and the former home of his grandfather, President Tyler, for the last 20 years of his life.
Harrison’s son William now oversees the Sherwood Forest Foundation.
My grandparents have been gone for 30 years and I was born almost 200 years after President Tyler.
